Crown Princess Victoria started her visit in Athens on Thursday at the magnificient New Acropolis museum where the President of Greece Mr Karolos Papoulias offered a luncheon at the topfloor of the museum.
In the evening, it was time for the inauguration of Design S with more than 500 people in the audience at the planetarium Eugenides Foundation in Athens. Athenians interesed in design, representatives of the government, trade and industry, as well as the diplomatic corps in Athens had gathered the invitation and took part of the exhibition, speeches, music by the pianist Maria Bertilsson and later on a Swedish buffet.
Ewa Kumlin, general manager of Svensk Form (the Swedish Society of Crafts and Design) and responsible for the exhibition, pointed out the importance of "good design for a better life" in her speech. The visitors studied the exhibition with great interest and many discussed the Swedish "minimalism" but also the fact that good design can contribute to a better life.
The exhibtion which shows examples of industrial and furniture design, jewellery, clothes and graphics acquired a lot of attention in the Greek media.
