Launching of BabyBjörn in Greece

The baby product company BabyBjörn has visited Athens for a press event this week. The event was held at the Swedish residency with around 40 guests, mostly from Greek media, with some special invited children from 4 months of age up to 1 year. Potties, baby carriers, travel beds and babysitters covered a large part of the residential terrace and were closely examined by the guests. Discussions came up not only on baby products, but also on quality and safety for children and adults. Many appreciated the specially made test baby sitters for adults that BabyBjörn brings to exhibitions and different events. These were exact copies of the original and were greatly used later on.

Sweden’s Ambassador in Greece, Håkan Malmqvist opened the event with describing the Swedish family policy and the general view on children and parents. BabyBjörns Mirja Eriksson gave an insight to the company’s history and the originator Björn Jakobson, who, in beginning of the sixties, came up with the idea to develop practical baby products. He was inspired in USA by a similar babysitter as the one BabyBjörn produces today. The company was founded in 1961 and Björns wife Lillemor Jakobson is still the company’s chief designer.

The big international breakthrough for BabyBjörn came for approximately ten years ago when pictures on Hollywood celebrities carrying their baby’s in BabyBjörn carriers, made the news. The pictures were published in international magazines as well as newspapers.

The event finished with a Swedish summer buffet and BabyBjörn bags with Swedish candy for every guest to bring home.
