Invited speakers from Greek CRES, Swedish Geotec, ABB, Thermia AB och Anders Nykvist Architects where there to present environmental friendly solutions which Sweden is world leading in. The Swedish ambassador Håkan Malmqvist opened the seminar with a speech on Sweden’s path towards an almost fossil free energy system and pointed out financial support for entrepreneurship and cooperation between industry organisations, politicians and scientists as important factors for good result.
- Sweden's success story can not be fully copied by other countries. All countries have their own conditions. But hopefully Swedish experiences can inspire others to see that we can have a future with both welfare and climate care. It is possible to combine the two, stated Håkan Malmqvist.
In addition to the positive effects on the environment, several speakers addressed the economic aspects of reducing energy consumption. Johan Barth, CEO at Geotec, gave examples in his presentation on projects where the straight pay-back time is as short as 4,1 years.
- To invest in geoenergy is to cut down on energy consumption, to reduce energy spending and to decrease the dependency on fossil energy. This is an amazing opportunity for Greece, said Johan Barth.
The conference were estimated to interest approx 100 visitor but more than 400 guest attended and numerous people asked questions during the prepared question time in the afternoon. The seminar has had a great response in media before, during and after the conference. Greek TV-network SKAI, several reporters from Greek radio and Greek newspapers were there to cover the story.
