First news portal dedicated to Sweden is now launched

The Council for the Promotion of Sweden (consisting of the Swedish Government Offices including the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications, the Invest in Sweden Agency, the Swedish Institute, the Swedish Trade Council and VisitSweden) and the company The NewsMarket have launched the first news video portal dedicated to Sweden.

The Swedish digital news portal, appropriately named The Sweden Channel will aggregate video about Swedish business and industry, innovative products, events, culture, destinations etc. and make it available to TV and online journalists and bloggers around the world.

Sweden is at the forefront of digital technologies in Europe, with an 80% penetration rate of internet usage and a record number of people using Web TV, and Swedish companies including Volvo Group, Ericsson, Volvo Cars and Saab Group are already successfully using online video to reach their international audiences.

The Sweden Channel will enable Swedish companies, institutions and non-profit organisations to upload their video and multimedia news content to a central destination and promote their messages to the global media. The site will be free to registered news media and all video will be available in broadcast quality, as well as streaming video and embeds.

“Sweden has been on the cutting edge of culture, business and social trends for a long time and we are pleased to now have a platform from which to communicate about our country with the rest of the world and using video,” said  Fredrik Wetterqvist, Director for Cultural promotion and the image of Sweden at the Ministry for foreign Affairs.

Svenska Filmbolaget, a leading Swedish TV and video production company, has been named as the official production partner to the Council for the Promotion of Sweden.
