Exhibition: “Eco Chic - Towards Sustainable Swedish Fashion” in Istanbul 1 - 21 October

Istanbul Moda Academy (IMA) is hosting the touring exhibition “Eco Chic – Towards Sustainable Swedish Fashion” in collaboration with the Swedish Institute and the Consulate General of Sweden 1-21 October 2009. The exhibition, which includes 16 designs from 14 Swedish designers, will bring professionals from the fashion and textile industry together for the opening event at IMA on October 1.

The exhibition, presenting environmentally friendly clothes from Swedish designers such as Julian Red, Filippa K and Dem Collective have previously been on display in several cities, including Belgrade, Minsk, Kiev and Riga. The next stops of the exhibition will be Berlin and New York.

Within the scope of the “Eco Chic” exhibition a seminar and two workshops will be organized. The title of the seminar is “Ecological Life and Fashion” and will take place at IMA on October 2, 2009. The speakers at the seminar are: Anna Maria Bernitz, the project manager of the “Eco Chic” exhibition; Annika Axelsson, one of the partners of Dem Collective that will talk about production of ecological designs; Marcus Bergman, one of the partners of Bergman’s and lecturer at University College of Borås; Nina Baldwin, project coordinator at the Centre for Sustainable Fashion, London College of Fashion; Rengin Akyüz, Managing Director of Ants Textile and Hüseyin Taş, textile representative of Turkey at the Institute of Marketology who will talk about the certification process of ecological designs.

The workshops, that will be organized by the renowned Swedish designer Rikard Lindqvist and a Turkish designer, will take place at IMA on October 13 and 14. The designers will show how a simple ecological design is produced from used or organic fabrics within an interactive environment.
