General debate on children's rights

The Swedish EU Presidency participated on October 14 in the general debate on children’s rights in the third committee of the UN General Assembly, holding a dialogue with the Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG) for Children in Armed Conflict, Radhika Coomaraswamy and the newly appointed SRSG on Violence against Children, Marta Santos Pais.

The EU also delivered a statement taking stock of progress and challenges in implementing the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The focus of the dialogue and statements was very much on children’s participation, which is the theme for this year’s omnibus resolution on the rights of the child, which is introduced by the EU and GRULAC.
