Declaration on Kenya by the EU with wide international support

The Presidency on behalf of the European Union at the level of capitals has made a declaration on Kenya. The declaration is made with wide international support, representing 44 countries worldwide.

The European Union countries are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom. The declaration is also made on behalf of the European Commission.

The following European countries align themselves at level of capitals with this declaration: Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia Iceland, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, Norway, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia,,

The Heads of Mission in Nairobi of Canada, Japan, Mexico, Switzerland and the United States of America share the concern of the European Union and endorse the declaration.

On November 11th 2009, the Embassy of Sweden in its capacity as Presidency of the European Union, together with United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and the Kenyan Institute for Law and Environmental Governance (ILEG), organised a conference in Nairobi under the theme "Climate Change: A Common Challenge". The conference was intended to contribute to raising awareness on the impacts that climate change and the climate change negotiating process has and will have on Kenya and its people, and on the actions needed now and beyond the upcoming climate change conference in Copenhagen (COP15). The conference attracted close to 200 enthusiastic participants from all sectors and backgrounds.
