The Swedish and the British Ambassador visited Vranje

A so called "outreach-programme" will take place during the Swedish Presidency of EU which means that ambassadors from EU countries will visit various cities in Serbia. As a part of this programme the Ambassador of Sweden, Mr Krister Bringéus and the Ambassador of Great Britain, Mr Steven Wordsworth, visited the City of Vranje in southern Serbia on 14-15 October 2009.

The ambassadors met with local political leaders and were briefed on the long-term goals and ongoing projects in Vranje. Later they paid a visit to a monument dedicated to doctors and nurses from Scotland, who came to Vranje in 1915 to help Serbian soldiers during a typhus epidemic.

At the local newspaper Vranjske the ambassadors met with the Editor in chief and gave interviews.

The programme ended with a visit to the gymnasium Bora Stankovic where the ambassadors and the students discussed issues related to EU as well as “green challenges”. The students presented their visions of the future, as citizens of the European Union, and shared their thoughts of what Serbia can offer EU, not only what EU can offer Serbia.  The purpose of the visit to the school was to “give a face to the European Union” and to give the students possibilities to receive answers to their questions about EU.
