Open Source Embroidery Exhibition features Swedish-American artist Michele Pred

San Francisco’s Museum of Craft and Folk Art presents Open Source Embroidery, an exhibition which includes workshops and exhibitions that investigate how the open source software development model has been incorporated into the language of cultural participation.

San Francisco based, Swedish-American artist Michele Pred’s work will be featured in this exhibition. She will give a talk about her mobile phone interactive barcode embroidery on Thursday, November 19, from 7-8 pm.

The exhibition has been developed by BildMuseet in Umeå and the Museum of Craft and Folk Art in San Francisco. Open Source Embroidery exhibition presents artworks that use embroidery and code as a tool for participatory production and distribution. The exhibition was originally presented in Sweden at BildMuseet in Umeå.

Michele Pred is a conceptual artist who works with found and confiscated objects and technology imbued with cultural and political meaning. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries, art fairs and museums in London, Stockholm, New York, Bologna, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco. Her work is part of the permanent collection at the 21st Century Museum, The Contemporary Museum in Honolulu, the Di Rosa Preserve in Napa, CA and is held in numerous corporate and private collections. Michele is the founder of the San Francisco Bay Area based art collective Quorum.
