On Friday 30th of October at 21.00, the photo exhibition “Photo Book about Sweden” will open at Che Bar&Gallery on Poltavskaya street nr3. The exhibition is brought to St Petersburg by the Consulate General of Sweden and presents a somewhat different view of Sweden through the eyes of young photographers between 14-32 years old.
Ola Möller, the project manager, will give a short presentation of the exhibition before a dj gives the audience a reason to linger on afterwards.
During the summer of 2008 young photographers had the chance to send in photos showing their idea of Sweden. The project quickly attracted attention from the media and in total over 1500 images from over 200 photographers were sent in, 64 of which were finally included in the exhibition and are now to be shown in the gallery.
- We were looking for a book that showed the Sweden we know but couldn’t find any that we recognised ourselves in. Most of the books showed an romanticised picture of Sweden with quaint cottages, dark deep forests, mooses and midnight sun.
Over 70 people have over time been involved in the project. Among them photographers, translators, graphic designers, project managers and programmers.
The "Photo Book about Sweden" was published on February 26th 2009. The exhibition in St Petersburg will be shown from 30th October till 13th November.
