Salut! Baroque concert "Queen Christina" in Sydney and Canberra
Salut! Baroque is one of Australia’s premier baroque ensembles and is currently celebrating its 14th year of subscription series concerts in Canberra and Sydney.
The next concert in November is entitled “Queen Christina”, with music focusing on Christina’s time exiled in Rome. Queen Christina of Sweden was a remarkable patron in the development of baroque music. Having abdicated the Swedish throne, converted to Catholicism and exiled herself in Rome, Christina became patron of The Arcadian Academy, an intellectual and artistic circle formed by a group of poets in 1690, which became enormously influential in all the arts.
For this concert we are delighted to welcome Opera Australia star Tobias Cole (Counter tenor). The concert will feature wonderful music by Corelli, Scarlatti, Cavalli, Stradella and Cesti.
The concert will be performed in Sydney on Wednesday 11 November 2009, 7.30pm, Verbrugghen Hall, Sydney Conservatorium of Music
and Canberra on Friday 13 November 2009, 7.30pm, Llewellyn Hall Canberra School of Music
