JA JA JA – New Nordic Club Night

A new club night in London, showcasing the best emerging talent from the Nordic countries

Launch night will be on 19 November at the Lexington in Islington, followed by a Christmas party on 17 December and planned monthly club nights for 2010.

  • 25 Sep - 21 Nov 2009 The Birthday Party – ceramist Mia E Göransson
    ‘The Birthday Party’ marks the tenth birthday of the Flow Gallery. To celebrate the occasion, the gallery invited 12 passionate women collectors to nominate 12 artists with the brief to create a place setting for a festive table. Swedish ceramist Mia E Göransson, selected by Lady Frances Sorrel, takes inspiration from nature for her setting of cups and vessels.
  • 8 Oct - 28 Nov 2009 Rose Theatre, Kingston presents Strindberg´s Miss Julie.
    Swedish novelist, playwright and artist August Strindberg (1849 – 1912) wrote 58 plays during his lifetime and has arguably become one of the most influential Scandinavian writers of all time. Sex and power dominate his scandalous masterpiece, ‘Miss Julie’ as Strindberg explores what draws men and women together – and makes them want to destroy each other. ’Miss Julie’ is directed by Stephen Unwin and the cast includes Daniel Betts, Lucy Briers and Rachel Pickup. Translation by Kenneth McLeish.

    Peter Jablonski can be heard in concert with cellist Ralph Kirshbaum on 5 November performing works by Beethoven, Webern, Chopin, Lutoslawski and Shostakovich.

    Amy Johansson´s portrait “Arif Tokai, (Arif - The Collector)” has been selected for the 2009 Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. The exhibition runs from 5 November - 14 February 2010.

  • 8 Nov 2009 Radio Musical inspired by Ingmar Bergman.
    Originally commissioned by Swedish National Radio, ‘ The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman’ can be heard on BBC 6 Music on 8 November with previews on Radio 2. Written and produced by brothers Ron and Russel Mael, also known as US music duo Sparks, it is a wonderfully original musical fantasy, a ‘ what if’ story based on the internationally renowned Swedish film director.‘ The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman’ was broadcast in Sweden in August 2009 to great acclaim and is also released as Spark´s latest album.

    Sweden is represented by artists in the fields of dance, design, film, and special events at the Nice Festival in Liverpool. The festival takes place between 19 November and 3 December and aims to present the best in collaborative works between the UK and the Nordic countries

    The festival was launched in 2005 and each year thousands of children, young people and their families have enjoyed premiers, films classics, animation classics from all over the world as well as work shops and special events. Three Swedish films are included in this years festival which runs from 21 – 29 November.

    The band was formed in 1999 and comes from the southern Swedish town of Helsingborg.
  • 26 - 27 Nov 2009 Pianist Johan Hugosson at The Schott Music Room
    Johan Hugosson, pianist and composer is a fervent advocate of contemporary Swedish music and in this two day event he performs works by Albert Schnelzer and a new work by Erik Hjärpe.The concert also includes new work by British contemporary composer Christian Mason, Ballad No. 1 i G-minor Op. 23 by Frédéric Chopin and the Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach.
