The exhibition Luminous Modernism, put together by an international team of scholars and curators headed by Dr. Patricia G. Berman, is a centennial retrospective of the Scandinavian Art Exhibition of 1912 exploring the influence of Scandinavian Modernism on American art. It will take place at Scandinavia House in Midtown Manhattan between October 20, 2011 and February 11, 2012.

This exhibit features selected artists from "The New Collectors Book", a New York showcase publication dedicated to raising awareness for a range of fine arts.

Swedish artists Magnus Bärtås and Karl Tuikkanen are featured in A Postcard from Afar: North Korea from a Distance where the works of eight artists are brought together in an attempt to develop a picture of what the Democratic People's Republic of Korea might be, in the absence of reliable, unbiased information. The opening reception takes place on January 11, 6-8 pm

Scandinavia House is showing the seven feature-length episodes that make up the Maria Wern series, based on the crime fiction novels of best-selling author Anna Jansson and starring acclaimed Swedish actress Eva Röse.

Swedish artist Pär Strömberg is featured in Charles Bank Gallery’s RETROspect, a pairing of staff-selected contemporary artworks with examples of exquisitely painted nineteenth-century woodworking from the collection of Elliot and Grace Snyder. A preview opening, hosted by WeSC, takes place on Thursday, January 12, 6-9 pm.

The Hans Christian Andersen Storytellers, some of New York’s most famous storytellers bring to life exciting tales of mythical creatures and fantastic adventures from Scandinavia and the far North at Scandinavia House.

Meet Sören Stærmose, producer of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy film adaptations, at Scandinavia House on February 3. He will discuss the Swedish version and American adaptation of the Millennium films, as well as the popularity of Nordic crime series and authors. The talk will follow the viewing of May Death Sleep/Må döden sova, a Maria Wern episode. The discussion will be moderated by Mikael Södersten.

As part of the ongoing D’Addario Pro-Arte Classical Guitar Concert Series, world renowned classical guitarist Johannes Möller from Sweden will perform at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall on February 2.

Malin Abrahamsson’s art exhibit Time-Lapse will be available for viewing at the Church of Sweden February 3-28. Opening reception will take place on Friday, February 3, 6-9 pm.

BAMkids Film Festival presents the NY premiere of Swedish children’s film Mamma Moo & Crow (Mamma Mu och Kråkan) at BAM Rose Cinemas on February 5, at 10:30 am. The festival offers 73 films from 26 countries along with Q&As with filmmakers, music performances, puppet shows and kid friendly food.

The Consulate General will be closed for visitors on Monday, February 6, through Tuesday, February 7, due to consular training.

Scandinavia House presents a lecture by Swedish author Monika Fagerholm about her book The Glitter Scene on February 7, 6:30 pm. The conversation is moderated by Michael A. Orthofer.

In partnership with the New York International Children's Film Festival, Swedish award-winning animator Erling Ericsson will work with young filmmakers to create animated stories using words, pictures, movement and sound. The finished films will be showcased at NYICFF 2012 in March. This workshop takes place at Battery Park City School on February 20-24.
