SWEDEN PARTICIPATES IN SINGAPORE WRITERS FESTIVAL 2009

For 2009, the Singapore Writers Festival is going UnderCovers to bring you the literary talents from Singapore, the region and the world. So get comfy and ready for a whirlwind of readings, talks and meet with writers you love and whom you’ll come to love.

The Singapore Writers Festival (SWF) is Singapore’s only national literary festival and one of Singapore’s major literary events. To date, it remains one of the few literary festivals in Asia that is multi-lingual, focusing on four languages - English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil.

Central to the SWF is the belief that literary arts is one of Singapore’s major cultural expressions, one that contributes to the collective identity of Singaporeans.

Engagement in literary arts activities provides an in-depth understanding of other cultures as well as renders the individual with the ability to influence and communicate effectively.

Undercovers. Find your passion. Dive under covers.

This is the Halloween you have been waiting for: the mysterious child next door; unsolved blood-curdling murders; vampires. This is the Halloween you have been waiting for: the mysterious child next door; unsolved blood-curdling murders; vampires.

The Singapore Writers Festival celebrates Halloween with the art of one of the world’s leading and most lauded horror writers today – Swedish writer John Ajvide Lindqvist, author of the sensational Let The Right One In.

Program and screening schedule

Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right One In)
31 October 1pm-2.55pm Venue: Screening Room

Price: $6

2008 | 115 minutes | Directed by Tomas Alfredson | Sweden | In Swedish with English subtitles | NC16

Oskar, 12, lives in a working-class suburb in Stockholm. He befriends Eli, the new girl who has moved in next door, but soon finds out that she is actually a 200-year-old vampire. Their friendship remains strong despite the odds they have to face, including keeping Oskar's bullies away, albeit with a terrible conclusion.

The title of the film, which is based on John Ajvide Lindqvist's novel, refers to a slice of vampiric folklore, which states that a vampire cannot enter a house unless it is invited.

There will be a post-show dialogue with the author, moderated by newspaper columnist Tay Yeak Keak.

"A Genre Masterpiece. Absolutely one of the most brilliant narratives I've had the pleasure to watch in the last decade." Joseph B. Malcial, Pears Magazine
